シリコンバレーってのは
いつかねー、シリコンバレーという場所をしったのは定かではない。
だが、知ったときから憧れのようなものがあったと思う。
現実とはそう甘いものではないと思うが、新しい技術やサービスを提供しようとする起業家、大学、VCやエンジェル、弁護士、会計士などのいろいろな人が助け合い、近くには海岸、テニスコートなどの施設もあるみたいなイメージ。インフラが整い、新しいことを有能な仲間と協力してがむしゃらにやる。妄想かもしれないがあこがれる。
でも、バブルとかで物価が高くなりすぎて仕事をしていても持ち家に住めなかったり子供を育てる環境としては悪くなるという話も聞く。
まあ、それは置いておくとして、やっぱりシリコンバレーは気になる。ということで、JTPAというシリコンバレーで働く日本人をサポートするNPOが開いた東京セミナーに行ってきた。

− シリコンバレー・ベンチャーから学んだこと −

3名の方は三菱商事でシリコンバレーに駐在し、その人脈でベンチャーキャピタルを設立した方、銀行からスタンフォードのMBAに行きシリコンバレーに残りコンサルやビジネスディベロップメントをしている方、東北大学の助手で文部省からスタンフォードに派遣され、そのつながりでシリコンバレーのベンチャーに参加して、現在はNTTの研究者の方とそれぞれ異なるキャリアを積んだ方の話が聞けてとても面白かった。

シリコンバレーで仕事をする、創業する人の目標のボトムラインは同じ、会社の株式公開やイグジット
日本の大企業だと、自分の将来が見えてくる。この大学、この部署出身で最高でこの人の役職、普通でこの人のような役職、最低だとこの人みたいなロールも出るがいる。それはつまらない。
ベンチャー創業時は資金集めで断られることも多く感情の起伏が激しい。それをどのようにとロースするかが重要。
もし、これができたらどのようになるのかを、価値・人脈などを具体的にイメージする。
「反省はしても、後悔ぁはしない人生」
成功するまであきらめなければ、進歩する。
細かい仕事を成功させて這い上がって行く
小さくてもユニークさを出していく。そうしないとビザが下りないという現実問題がある。
自分の価値を伝えて、わかってもらう
転職前に、ヒアリングに行く。自分が転職する業種や業界で成功している人、自分と似たキャリアを先に経験した人に自分でも成功できるか、やっていけるかを聞きにいく。
必要なスキルと足りないスキルを理解して、足りないものはうめる。
自分の価値を回りにいかに伝えるか。しゃべらないとわかってないと思われる。事実(実績)を積み重ねて見せる。肝になるところで、ツボを押さえてみんなをひきつける。勝負どころでキメ言葉を言う。聞く力をつけて、話を踏まえた説明。
自分の行っていることの説得力を増すためにMBAで習ったアカウンティングやロジカルシンキングなどを使う。実際は前線で学ぶしかない。
良いビジネススクールは多様な人が着ている。学部卒、コンサル、投資銀行出身、NPOにビジネスを持ち込みたい人、起業家、とりあえず行く人、キャリアを転換するため、黒人、アジア人、白人、年齢も幅があるなど。
